American Interiors’ Recycling Efforts

"What is good for your company is also good for the environment."

Through remanufacturing, products that used to end up in landfills are now being revitalized, re-born, and re-used. Industry experts estimate that for each pound of natural resources used in remanufacturing furniture, five to nine pounds of original materials are conserved.

Because fewer raw materials are used, remanufacturing conserves energy and natural resources. Office furniture recycling extends the lives of resources already in circulation such as wood, aluminum, plastics and fiber, using them over and over to the fullest extent possible.

American Interiors’ manufacturing processes, packaging materials, and business practices are all environmentally friendly. We are committed to technologies that will reduce the cost of commercial office furniture by offering lines of recycled, or remanufactured, office furniture. By purchasing recycled furniture, you can expect to save an average of 30 to 50 percent off what new office furniture costs.

Knoll Recycling Efforts

  • Beyond following environmental laws, Knoll strives independently to take less from the earth, even as it consistently provides world-class designs to our customers.
  • We have invested substantially in conserving many thousands of tons of raw materials in the past 15 years by working with our scores of vendors to create reusable containers and packaging.
  • Recycling at Knoll is a standard practice.  Every year, we remove from the waste stream more than 1,200 tons of pallets, more than 800 tons of cardboard, more than 7,600 tons of wood scrap and more than 100 tons of paper.
  • Our paper and cardboard conservation efforts now save 1,750 trees each year.
  • We help recycle more than 200 tons of fabric each year.  Scraps are transported to manufacturers who then pull them apart and reweave them into carpet backing used in automobiles and other end uses.
